The HANA Hanten Jacket is a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Japanese Hanten, a classic winter jacket once worn over kimonos for added warmth during colder months. Traditionally padded and lightweight, the Hanten is known for its comfort and timeless style, and the HANA Jacket brings this heritage into a contemporary context.

The outer shell is made of patchwork pieces carefully cut and sewn from fabric scraps, making this a zero-waste piece of clothing. It is insulated with organic cotton padding that is lightweight yet warm and will soften with time. The collar, sleeves, and outside pockets are all made in accent colors, which brings the whole color palette together. The collar is wide enough to stand on its own or folded down. The jacket is fully lined, complete with two huge inside pockets.

The jacket in the photos is made in No. 6 - Forest Green.

No. 1 - All blue: Only pieces in hues of blue.
No. 2 - Blue-Neutrals: Pieces in hues of blue, white, and off-white.
No. 3 - Blue Rose: Pieces in blue, neutrals, and pink rose.
No. 4 - Terracotta: Pieces in Terracotta, Mustard, Chambray, and neutrals.
No. 5 - Olive: Pieces in hues of Olive, Tan, and Neutrals.
No. 6 - Forest Green: Pieces in dark green, olive green, mint, and neutrals.
No. 7 - Multicolor: Pieces in various colors, including Chambray, Mustard, Mint, and Neutrals.

Materials

Outer layer: The panels are made of the scraps that I've collected while making clothes. Hence, they are a mix of all the natural fiber fabrics I use that include 100% linen, 55% linen 45% cotton, and 100% cotton.

Collar, sleeves and pockets: 100% linen

Filling: 100% organic cotton wadding

Lining: 100% cotton or 100% linen. I use fabric samples and remnants for the lining so it will depend on what's available at the moment. But it will always compliment the outer piece.

Care

• Spot clean or dry clean.
• If necessary, machine wash at low to medium heat (40ºC / 104F) with like colors, gentle cycle and let dry on a rack.
• Do not bleach.

None of the fabrics are pre-washed. Linen and cotton have a shrinkage of 7%-10% when washed for the first time, annd it will give the jacket a crinkle look, which is also lovely.
